➡️ Red Meat
There really is nothing quite like biting into a juicy, steak or hamburger, am I right? Unfortunately, most experts agree that the regular consumption of red meat comes with consequences that are highly undesirable.
➡️ Milk
In previous decades, milk was promoted as a superfood that should be included as a staple in the diet of every health-conscious individual. However, over recent years, the medical community at large has reversed its position on the health advantages of dairy products.
➡️ Eggs
They are loaded with both fat and cholesterol. In fact, a single average-sized egg contains more than twice as much cholesterol as a Big Mac.
➡️ Refined Sugar
Experts have consistently linked the excess consumption of refined sugar to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and excess belly fat.
➡️ Bread
Bread has been under fire ever since the gluten-free trend gained traction over the last decade. The gluten-free trend should be considered iffy at best.
➡️ Fried Foods
Aside from being objectively delicious, there aren't a lot of good things one can say about fried foods. According to The New York Times, excessive consumption of fried foods increases the risk of diseases.
➡️ Vegetable Oil
People tend to think that vegetable oil is a healthy alternative to butter. The fats in vegetable oil are mostly unsaturated, so this is partially true. Studies have shown that the unsaturated fats in vegetable oil tend to oxidize when people heat them. When oxidized, they become dangerous and can cause inflammation in our body tissues.
➡️ Alcoholic Beverages
It's no secret that the booze industry is booming in the United States. Each and every year, alcohol sales rake in more than $70 billion in tax revenue. Despite this astonishing amount, it is often forgotten that the consumption of alcohol is associated with all kinds of health problems.
➡️ Soda
Though crisp, bubbly, and satisfying, soda has absolutely no health merits.
The biggest problem with soda comes down to sugar, which contributes to obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions.
➡️ Peanuts
Peanuts aren't intrinsically unhealthy, but they are a very calorie-rich food and contain saturated fat. This makes it easy to eat far too many of them in one sitting. Peanuts are also high in phosphorus, which experts say inhibits the body's ability to absorb other nutrients, such as iron and zinc.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition where the amount of gastric juice that refluxes into the esophagus exceeds the normal limit, causing symptoms with or without associated esophageal damage.
Esophagus is the tube-like structure that connects our oral cavity to the stomach.
At the point where the esophagus joins the stomach, there is a circular muscle band called the lower esophageal sphincter.
This sphincter acts like an automatic door to prevent gastric juice from coming into the esophagus. When a person is at rest, the door remains closed.
And when the person is eating, the door opens to permit the food particles to enter the stomach. Once food enter the stomach, the door will be closed again.
This opening and closing functions are controlled by the autonomic nervous system.
In gastroesophageal reflux disease, this function of the lower esophageal sphincter is impaired, resulting in uncontrolled gastric juice reflux into the esophagus.
The exact cause of this dysfunction is not very clear.
However, several risk factors are thought to be associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Including obesity, smoking, and large meals with high fat and low fiber content.
In addition, transient relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter can be caused by foods like coffee, alcohol, chocolate, fatty meals, as well as by certain medications like beta agonists, nitrates, calcium channel blockers, and anticholinergics.
Hormones like progesterone, and substances like nicotine, also can cause relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter.
People with gastroesophageal reflux disease can include the following foods to their diet.
High fiber foods
Alkaline foods
Watery foods
Ginger
Non-citrus fruits
Lean meat and seafood

📝 SUMMARY:
Acid reflux, also known as Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease or GERD, is a common gastrointestinal disorder that affects approximately 20% of adults in Western cultures. GERD can cause a range of symptoms, from heartburn and regurgitation to epigastric pain, dyspepsia, nausea, bloating, and belching. In addition to causing discomfort, GERD has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, including acute myocardial infarction. Therefore, it's crucial to manage GERD symptoms.
Diet is a crucial aspect of managing GERD symptoms, and there are ways to reduce the symptoms of acid reflux disease. One way is by consuming anti-acid reflux foods. Here are five such foods:
Oatmeal: Oatmeal is a heart-healthy food and a great source of fiber. It can help soothe and coat the digestive tract. Since oats absorb stomach acid, it's a good choice for reducing GERD symptoms. Other whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, barley, millet, and wheat are also good alternatives for people with reflux disease.
Ginger: Ginger contains antioxidants and chemicals that may have medicinal properties. Some compounds contained in ginger are said to reduce gastric contractions and relieve gastrointestinal irritation. This means that ginger can help reduce the likelihood of acid reflux from your stomach into your esophagus. Ginger can also help with inflammation. Esophageal inflammation is a key characteristic of reflux disease, and since ginger has potent anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used to reverse the effects of swelling.
Bananas: Bananas are high in potassium, which is necessary for normal blood pressure and heart function, and they also help in the reduction of the production of stomach acid. They are also low in acid, making them a safe choice for people with reflux.
Green vegetables: Green vegetables like broccoli, kale, spinach, collard greens, asparagus, peas, cucumbers, and brussels sprouts are rich in vitamins and minerals and aid digestion and regular bowel movement. They have been shown to help prevent and treat acid reflux.
Lean proteins: Lean proteins like chicken, turkey, fish, and seafood are low in fat and are good options for people with reflux disease. Red meats, on the other hand, are high in fat and can worsen GERD symptoms.
In conclusion, consuming anti-acid reflux foods can help reduce the symptoms of GERD. A diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, green vegetables, bananas, and ginger can help soothe the digestive system and ease the discomfort caused by GERD.

Before I share my quick thoughts, this is a post from our #TBT Q&A series.
Every Thursday, we will be uploading one #TBT question to our YouTube channel, from our old #LLTV Q&A series that I filmed in 2012.
Here is today’s viewer question:
Brad, could you please explain more about alkaline foods vs acidic foods? Does eating alkaline foods vs acidic foods affect your health, performance, and body composition?
Excellent question and it absolutely does.
Did you know that working out actually puts your body in an acidic state due to the by-products created by exercise?
When your body is acidic, it naturally neutralizes the acidity by breaking down muscle tissue.
Not good.
So this makes it even more important for people who workout to be eating more alkaline foods.
Alkaline Foods vs Acidic Foods:
And if this concept of alkaline foods vs acidic foods is confusing, let me simplify it.
After digestion, foods in the body become either acidic or alkaline.
Green vegetables and most vegetables are very alkaline. This is important because you want to make sure your body is in more of an alkaline state.
So on a pH balance, with 7 being right in the middle, you want to have a pH balance a little bit more towards the alkaline state, with an optimal pH of approximately 7.3.
To do this, make sure to always have a good serving of vegetables with each meal.
When it comes to acidic foods, a lot of foods high in protein, which I always talk about being healthy, are more acidic. These acidic foods include: beef, chicken breasts, and eggs.
This is why I always balance my serving of protein with green vegetables, as it gives the meal the necessary balance of alkaline to acidic foods.
Other acidic foods include, dairy, wheat, and processed foods filled sugar.
When your body is consistently acidic from eating too much sugar, this is an environment where cancer cells can breed and grow.
On top of this, an acidic body can also be the cause of weight problems and many other illnesses.
This is just another reason why it’s important to drink a lot of water and eat your green vegetables, to bring your body back into an alkaline state.

Uric acid Foods to Avoid | Gout Diet Meal Plan | Gout | Uric acid - Best & Worst Foods | hyperuricemia | uric acid detoxification
Gout is a type of arthritis that involves sudden pain, swelling and inflammation of the joints.
People with gout experience sudden and severe attacks of pain, swelling and inflammation of the joints
These symptoms occur when there is too much uric acid in the blood.
This uric acid then crystallizes and settles in the joints.
If you have gout, certain foods may trigger an attack by raising your uric acid levels.
Trigger foods are commonly high in purines. When you digest purines, your body makes uric acid as a waste product
Now, This is not a concern for healthy people, as they efficiently remove excess uric acid from the body.
But, people with gout can’t efficiently remove excess uric acid. Thus, a high-purine diet may lead to uric acid accumulation and cause a gout attack
Foods that commonly trigger gout attacks include organ meats, red meats, seafood, alcohol and beer. They contain a moderate-to-high amount of purines
However, there is one exception to this rule. high-purine vegetables such as asparagus and spinach, do not trigger gout attacks.
And interestingly, fructose and sugar-sweetened beverages can increase the risk of gout attacks, even though they’re not purine-rich
Uric acid foods to avoid:
Avoid high purine foods:
These are foods that contain more than 200 mg of purines per 100gm or 3.5 ounces.
You should also avoid high-fructose foods, as well as moderately-high-purine foods, which contain 150–200 mg of purines per 100gms.
Here are a few major high-purine foods, moderately-high-purine foods and high-fructose foods to avoid:
All organ meats: These include liver, kidneys, sweetbreads andbrain.
Game meats: Examples include pheasant, veal and venison.
Fish: Herring, trout, mackerel, tuna, sardines, anchovies, haddock and more.
Other seafood: Scallops, crab, shrimp and roe.
Sugary beverages: Especially fruit juices and sugary sodas.
Added sugars: Honey, agave nectar and high-fructose corn syrup.
Yeasts: Nutritional yeast, brewer’s yeast and other yeast supplements.
Foods that you Should Eat:
You can consume low-purine foods
Foods are considered low-purine when they have less than 100 mg of purines per 3.5 ounces (100 grams).
Here are some low-purine foods that are generally safe for people with gout
Fruits: All fruits are generally fine for gout. Cherries may even helpprevent attacks by lowering uric acid levels and reducing inflammation
Vegetables: All vegetables are fine, including potatoes, peas, mushrooms, eggplants and dark green leafy vegetables.
Legumes: All legumes are fine, including lentils, beans, soybeans and tofu.
Nuts: All nuts and seeds.
Whole grains: These include oats, brown rice and barley.
Dairy products: All dairy is safe, but low-fat dairy appears tobe especially beneficial
Eggs
Beverages: Coffee, tea and green tea.
Herbs and spices: All herbs and spices.
Plant-based oils: Including canola, coconut, olive and flax oils.
